Doyle sat on her bed, in her quarters, and wondered if anyone had noticed, in the tension and anxiety of the situation, exactly what she'd said.
"You said you love Harper." Holo-Rommie said, appearing beside her.
Doyle glared at her and Holo-Rommie shrugged.
"I did not!" She protested. Even though I did.
She dimmed the lights, stopping the glare of their reflection on the bulkhead. It wasn't as if it actually mattered to her, but it gave her something to do. For a few seconds at least.
"They say the truth will set you free," She muttered. "So why do I feel even more trapped?"
"I believe humans call that 'uncertainty.'" Holo-Rommie said.
"I don't." Doyle said levelly. She paced across the room, then stepped out into the corridor. It was then that she started to listen to the commonplace sounds of the crew. Namely, footsteps.
Mostly because she stepped out of the room and was instantly nearly bowled over by one of them. Without thinking she grabbed onto the falling crewperson's arm to stead him/her with one hand and caught what they had been carrying in the other. Then she looked at him.
"Watch where you're going, Harper." She said.
"Sorry, sorry," He apologized. "But, you know, you really shouldn't step out of doors into peoples paths."
Doyle rolled her eyes and handed him his package.
"Uh, Doyle? Can you let go before I lose all feeling in my arm?"
"Oh, right. Sorry." Doyle said, letting go of his arm quickly.
Harper grinned and she eyed him suspiciously.
"Close your eyes." He said.
"Why?"
"Come on, Doyle, just do it. Please?"
She gave him a long-suffering sigh and closed her eyes. For a few moments nothing happened, but she didn't hear him walk away.
"Harper? Are you still there?" She asked.
"Yes, Doyle." He said patiently.
"What are you doing?"
"Waiting for you to put your sensors to a human level."
"Why would I do that?" She asked curiously.
"Because you won't get your surprised until you do."
"Is this a surprise I want?"
Harper didn't answer her.
"Fine." She said finally, complying. "Done."
"Good." He said. There was another moment of inaction.
Then he leaned up and kissed her softly. He pulled back slightly and leaned up so his mouth was right beside her ear.
"Rommie's not the only one who understands what you said." He whispered.
After a couple more minutes, she opened her eyes to find that he had gone. Smiling faintly to herself she turned on her heel and found herself face to face with a very smug looking Holo-Rommie.
"Not, a, word." She said, walking though the hologram and into her room.
"Of course not." Holo-Rommie said innocently.
"No, he figured it out on his own. He's smart, remember?"
"I thought I told you not to say a word."
Holo-Rommie shrugged.
There were a few seconds of silence during which Doyle lay down on her bed and stared up at the ceiling.
"So," Holo-Rommie said casually, "Do you still feel trapped?"
"No." Doyle said simply, and that was all that had been left to say.
