"Mr. Feeny, I need your help."
Mr. Feeny glanced up from his planting, at the boy over the fence, then stood up and dusted his hands off.
"You always do, Eric." He said sardonically. "What is it this time?"
"I'm sick of watching Cory and Shawn dance around each other."
"Playing yenta, are you, Mister Matthews?"
"Huh?" Eric asked in confusion.
"Matchmaker, Eric. You're trying to put them together."
"Yes! I've been trying, for weeks now, but nothing seems to work. They just don't get it."
"Sometimes, Mr. Matthews, two people can be completely in love, and never realize it, until its too late, regardless of how many people try to show them."
"Yeah, but-"
"But Cory's your brother and you have to try?" Feeny guessed.
Eric nodded. "I just, I can't think of anything else to do."
"Well, then, Mr. Matthews, I suggest you sit down," Eric sat, "Close your eyes," Eric closed his eyes, "And pray very hard that it works out better for them than it did for you and Mr. Marsdon."
Eric's eyes flew open. "You knew about that?"
Feeny shook his head. "Eric, everybody but you and Jason knew about that!"
Eric nodded as if it made sense. "Yeah, I guess they had to."
"I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help."
"Ah, that's okay, Mr. Feeny. You did what you could." Eric said, he waved before standing up and walking into the house.
Cory, Shawn, and Morgan sat around the table. Cory and Shawn were fighting over which of them got the last bit of syrup. WHile they were at it, Morgan took the syrup and dumped it onto her plate.
"Honestly," She said, "You two are the most oblivious couple I've ever seen."
"What?" Shawn said.
"Morgan, we're not-"
"But you should be." Eric interrupted from his corner knowingly.
"What?"
"Okay, Cor, it's like this. . ."
"Hey!" Shawn yelled. "Morgan took the last of the syrup!"
"Morgan!" Cory protested.
"Take it." Morgan said with a sigh. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, quickly escaping upstairs. "At least we tried." She said to Eric, who had followed her. He nodded.
Cory silently watched them disappear. As soon as they were out of earshot he grinned. "You know, I was going to say we weren't oblivious. . ." He trailed off, looking at the syrup.
"But we are."
"We so are. But so are they." He looked after them, smirked. "We really should tell them eventually."
"We will." Shawn assured him. "When watching their attempts gets boring."
"And in the meantime?"
"And in the meantime, we can share that syrup." Shawn said, his eyes flicking to to the plate.
"How would we do that?" Cory asked innocently.
Shawn smirked wickedly, and pulled Cory into his lap, his arms snaking around the other boys waist. "I'll show you," He whispered into Cory's ear.
Mr. Feeny, watching the scene from his garden, smiled ruefully and shook his head before turning back to the planting he had been doing.
